Fox Confirmed Positive for Rabies in Bridgewater, NJ

The Middle-Brook Regional Health Commission is reporting that a fox in Bridgewater NJ tested positive for rabies on May 7, 2026. The Health Commission is requesting that anyone (including pets) who may have had direct contact with a fox in Bridgewater within the past several days to immediately notify the Health Department and seek medical attention.

Rabies, a neurological disease, is almost 100% preventable. However, rabies is nearly always fatal once symptoms have developed so prompt action is necessary to prevent rabies!
Residents are reminded of the importance of:

  • Avoiding contact with wild animals
  • Ensuring pets are current on rabies vaccinations
  • Reporting of animal bites
